The America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Series Act of 2008 provides the proposed designs to be engraved on the coins with the design selection and approval process to be done solely by the discretion of the Secretary of the Treasury. The designs should be emblematic, symbolizing one chosen national site in each state. The chosen national site should have a historical significance in order to be a candidate for the coin’s design. The designs will be then be approved by a representative of the said national site and then passed for the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury.
The obverse side (head side) of the coin depicts the 1932 portrait of President George Washington by John Flanagan. The distinctive inscriptions there are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR. On the reverse side of the coin, images of national sites in each state will be depicted. In each year, 5 coins will be issued in the order of when the site was proclaimed as a national heritage site. These coins will be issued one at a time with a ten week interval.
The America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 or Public Law 110-456 ordered the Mint to utilize .999 fine silver coins that weigh 5 ounces and have an enormous 3 inch diameter as a complete identical of the quarters in the set. These coins, aside from its vast size, metallic composition and the edges are the only differences from the original quarters. This is the first in the history of the US Mint to create this huge coin. The edge of the coin instead of being ridge like the standard quarter will depict its fineness and its weight.
The first 5 of the in the American the Beautiful Quarter Program are the following: Hot Springs National Park Silver Bullion Coin (Arkansas), Yellowstone National Park Silver Bullion Coin (Wyoming), Yosemite National Park Silver Bullion Coin (California), Grand Canyon National Park Silver Bullion Coin (Arizona) and Mount Hood National Forest Silver Bullion Coin (Oregon).
This 2011, here is the 2nd batch of the America the Beautiful Quarter Program to be released with 10 weeks interval from each other. They are the following: Gettysburg National Military Park of Pennsylvania, Glacier National Park of Montana, Olympic National Park of Washington, Vicksburg National Military Park of Mississippi and Chickasaw National Recreation Area of Oklahoma. These are the 6th to 10th piece in the all-in-all Quarter Program. We currently only have the following 3 in stock as these are selling very quickly:
